Game Design: Nov 14 - Jan 16, Grades 4 - 8

Have you ever thought of bringing a story to life in the form of a game?

Knowing how to put together a successful game involves system-based thinking, creative problem solving, art and aesthetics, writing and storytelling. The course focuses on game design rather than computer programming. It lays a primary foundation for experimentation and exploration of video game design, story, character development, and winning gameplay before programming begins. The course emphasize the self-reliance and personal expression of the gaming artist, and encourage students to take conceptual risks and develop new modes of expression and form through gaming.

Through the game design process, students learn about how systems work and how they can be modified or changed. Students learn to think analytically and holistically, to experiment and test theories, and to consider other people as part of the systems they create and inhabit.

In the final project, students put their creative skills to work by creating and publishing an engaging game that has been tested, iterated and modified through peer feedback and run analysis.
